Waiting for Sunshine

Waiting for Sunshine

It’s 9:30pm, and it already feels like 29F outside. My plants came in hours ago. I wore a scarf, jacket, hat, gloves, and extra shirt when I walked to the bookstore tonight. I just ate some walnut fruit Manna bread, even though I’m not hungry.

So yeah, it’s officially winter here in Austin. Even though I wore a t-shirt during the day today.

Micro Greens (And Some Reds)

Gardening in Austin has turned out to be quite frustrating. The soil sucks. It’s dry. And squirrels delve into potted plants fearlessly (yes, even if the soil is liberally covered in squirrel repellant).

I haven’t had much luck growing anything from seed, except this: kale and beets. Will their siblings grow up to be mature vegetables? Not sure. But I do know that kale and beet microgreens taste really amazing!
