Best Vegan Restaurant Ever: WaterCourse Foods

March 31, 2008

If you’re ever in Denver (or even passing through Denver), you’ve got to go to WaterCourse Foods. Even if you’re not vegetarian or vegan, this place totally rules.

I’ve been to a lot of vegetarian / vegan restaurants in my life, and nothing compares to Watercourse (not even the Millenium in SF or Candle 79 in NYC). The food is just amazing. It’s perfectly prepared, fresh, and really flavorful. It’s not hippie, pretentious, under-seasoned, or even all that healthy tasting.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get pictures of our food (but I will next time). I had the tempeh burger with onion rings and green chili on the side. I consider myself a tempeh queen, and I was still very impressed by the burger. And the onion rings were definitely the best I’ve ever had. (And I had a lot in my pregan* days.) The green chili was good, but I haven’t had enough green chili in my life to say much more than that.

Bill got Banana Bread French Toast (also vegan), and the two bites I had were soooooo good. I’m probably going to get it next time. (Unless I follow through with my plan of starving myself for three days before I go and ordering the entire menu.)

I’ve heard Watercourse fills up for brunch on the weekends, but I am sure it is worth the wait. The people who work there look like snarly hipsters, but they are super sweet. I was seriously blown away by how friendly everyone was. I’m also totally impressed with how Uptown and City Park have gentrified in Denver. It’s a lot nicer over there than it used to be, so definitely check out the new Tattered Cover and Twist and Shout if you go to Watercourse.

Best Movie Theater Ever – Landmark Greenwood Village

Landmark Greenwood Village

We saw Juno at the new Landmark theater up in Greenwood Village yesterday, and the experience was incredible.

High points:

- The crowd was great… they even picked up after themselves.
- The staff was friendly.
- The seats were ultra comfortable (the VIP seats are as comfortable as business class airline seats).
- No cell phone noise that I heard (the staff asked us to turn off cellphones before the show).
- Really great food. I had a great wasabi flavored dried fruit and nut mix, plus there were many other vegetarian and organic options.
- Free popcorn and soda for everyone. (Not really my thing, but it still is nice.)
- Good indie movie selection.

As far as I’m concerned, this is *the* movie theater for me in Colorado.
